Who we are

If you’ve landed here, you’re likely dealing with something that feels harder than it “should.”

Your mind doesn’t turn off.
Thoughts loop or get stuck.
You find yourself analyzing, second-guessing, or trying to get certainty—and it only helps for a moment.

Or, during pregnancy or early parenthood, something has shifted.
You feel more anxious than expected.
More overwhelmed.
Maybe even unsettled by thoughts that don’t feel like “you.”

This is the kind of work we do every day.

Red Elm Psychotherapy is a boutique practice providing specialized, evidence-based therapy to adults across Virginia. As licensed psychologists with doctoral-level training and advanced clinical experience, we offer thoughtful, strategic care tailored to each client.

We specialize in two areas:

OCD and intrusive thoughts, using Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)
Perinatal and postpartum mental health, including anxiety, OCD, and identity shifts during pregnancy and early parenthood

We approach therapy as an active, collaborative process—grounded in research, but also warm, direct, and deeply human.

We don’t just focus on symptoms. We look at the patterns that keep people stuck, so treatment is focused, practical, and actually effective.

If this sounds familiar, you don’t have to keep managing it on your own.

We are Dr. Niles Cook and Dr. Erin Cook—licensed psychologists and co-founders of Red Elm Psychotherapy.
