Red Elm Psychology Residency
Advanced postdoctoral training program in OCD and perinatal mental health.
Red Elm Psychotherapy is a Psychologist-led specialty practice located in Vienna, Virginia, dedicated to evidence-based clinical excellence. Our fellowship program bridges the gap between doctoral-level education and premier-level private practice, focusing specifically on Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Perinatal Mental Health.
The Fellowship Experience
Red Elm Psychotherapy is a Psychologist-led specialty practice dedicated to providing advanced, evidence-based care within a collaborative environment. Our fellowship program is specifically designed for Residents in Psychology who are seeking a bridge between doctoral-level education and the clinical complexities of specialized private practice. We provide the clinical framework, administrative support, and direct supervision necessary to help you transition into your career as a confident, highly skilled specialist.
We maintain an Accessible Care Waitlist to ensure our residents have a consistent and diverse referral stream. This allowing you to focus on clinical work while we manage the logistics of patient acquisition.
The Training Advantage
Dual-Psychologist Supervision
Receive 100% of your supervised hours from our senior Psychologists. You will have direct, one-on-one mentorship from both Dr. Erin Cook and Dr. Niles Cook, providing two distinct perspectives on complex case conceptualization and practice management.
Specialty Focus
Residents maintain a diverse caseload of OCD, anxiety disorders, and complex clinical presentations. Within this broader practice, you will receive advanced training in the application of Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), with a specific emphasis on the intersection of Perinatal Intrusive Thoughts and Harm-Related Obsessions.
Collaborative Independence
We value working with residents who are ready to expand their clinical independence. You will have the room to manage your caseload autonomously while having consistent supervision and an open line of communication with supervisors.
Optional Assessment Track
For residents interested in maintaining skills in Psychological Assessment, we offer opportunities to incorporate diagnostic testing into your clinical load to assist with diagnostic clarification and treatment planning.
Red Elm Psychotherapy operates in strict accordance with the regulations set forth by the Virginia Board of Psychology. We are committed to maintaining the highest professional standards for both our residents and our patients.
Professional Title: All fellows are registered with the Board as a "Resident in Psychology" for the duration of their fellowship.
Supervised Hours: Our program is structured to fulfill the 1,500-hour supervised experience requirement necessary for independent licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Supervision Ratio: Residents receive at least two hours of 1-on-1 clinical supervision for every 40 hours of professional work, ensuring continuous oversight and professional development.
