OCD Therapy in Louisiana

Specialized OCD Treatment and ERP Therapy — Coming to Louisiana January 2028

We are excited to expand our telehealth services to clients located in Louisiana. We anticipate beginning to accept Louisiana clients on January 1, 2028, once we are legally authorized to provide services in the state.

Finding specialized OCD treatment can be difficult. Many people search for an OCD therapist who understands intrusive thoughts, compulsions, and the exhausting cycle of trying to feel certain about the things that matter most.

At Red Elm Psychotherapy, we specialize in evidence-based OCD treatment, including Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), as well as perinatal mental health care for pregnancy and postpartum concerns.

We look forward to expanding our telehealth services to clients located in Louisiana once we are legally authorized to practice there.

At this time, we are not yet able to provide therapy to clients physically located in Louisiana. We anticipate beginning to accept Louisiana clients when we are authorized to practice there through PSYPACT expansion.

Specialized OCD Care From Psychologists Who Understand OCD

OCD is often misunderstood. Many people spend years trying to manage intrusive thoughts, unwanted images, fears, or urges without realizing that these experiences are common symptoms of OCD — and that effective treatment exists.

ERP therapy helps people step out of the cycle of:

  • intrusive thoughts and fears

  • compulsive checking or reassurance seeking

  • avoidance

  • attempts to gain complete certainty

At Red Elm Psychotherapy, we help people with OCD learn to respond differently to uncertainty and regain the freedom to live according to their values.

OCD Concerns We Treat

Our OCD specialization includes:

  • Relationship OCD (ROCD) — fears about relationships, attraction, compatibility, or making the “right” choice

  • Scrupulosity — obsessive fears related to morality, religion, responsibility, or being a “good” person

  • Harm OCD — intrusive fears about causing harm or losing control

  • Contamination OCD — fears related to germs, illness, or contamination

  • Health anxiety and obsessive fears

  • Perinatal OCD — intrusive thoughts and anxiety during pregnancy and postpartum

What Is ERP Therapy?

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is a specialized form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy designed specifically for OCD.

ERP does not involve forcing yourself to “just stop worrying.” Instead, it helps you gradually face feared thoughts, feelings, and situations while learning that anxiety and uncertainty can be tolerated without compulsions.

Our psychologists provide ERP-informed treatment through secure telehealth in states where we are licensed or authorized to practice.

We’re Not Available in Louisiana Yet — But We’re Here as a Resource

We’re glad you found us. We know how discouraging it can be to find a therapist who specializes in OCD and then discover that state licensing rules prevent you from accessing care with them right now.

While we can’t provide therapy to Louisiana residents at this time, we hope these resources help you better understand OCD, anxiety, and evidence-based treatments that can make a difference.

Understanding OCD & ERP

If you or a loved one are navigating OCD, understanding the OCD cycle is often the first step toward finding effective support. These articles explore why OCD feels so difficult to break, why insight alone is often not enough, and how specialized treatment like ERP helps.

Why OCD Feels Impossible to Stop: Understanding the Obsessive-Compulsive Cycle

A practical breakdown of how obsessions, anxiety, compulsions, and temporary relief create a cycle that keeps OCD going — and how ERP helps interrupt that pattern.

Why OCD Insight Isn’t Enough

Many people with OCD understand that their fears don’t make logical sense, yet still feel trapped by anxiety and doubt. Learn why understanding OCD is important — but often not enough by itself.

What to Expect in ERP Therapy

Learn what Exposure and Response Prevention actually looks like, why it is considered the gold-standard treatment for OCD, and what you can expect from the process.

Why ERP Feels So Hard (And Why That’s Exactly Why It Works for OCD)

ERP can feel counterintuitive because OCD teaches us to avoid discomfort and seek certainty. This article explains why the hardest part of treatment is often the part that creates change.

Why Reassurance Seeking Keeps OCD Going

Understanding why something that feels helpful in the moment can unintentionally strengthen the OCD cycle.

Perinatal, Postpartum, & Maternal Mental Health

Pregnancy and early parenthood bring enormous transitions. For many parents, anxiety becomes intertwined with responsibility, uncertainty, and the pressure to “get everything right.”

These resources explore some of the most misunderstood experiences during this season:

Why Do Intrusive Thoughts Feel So Real Postpartum?

Many new parents experience frightening, unwanted intrusive thoughts after birth. Learn why these thoughts can feel so convincing and why they are not a reflection of your intentions or values.

Postpartum Anxiety: What It Feels Like and How to Get Help

An overview of postpartum anxiety, including constant worry, checking, difficulty relaxing, and how anxiety can begin to shape daily life.

It’s Not Control, It’s Postpartum Anxiety: Maternal Gatekeeping, Intrusive Thoughts, and OCD

How postpartum anxiety can create an exhausting need to monitor, control, or prevent anything from going wrong — and how families can begin breaking that cycle.

The Birth Story Loop: When “Healthy Baby, Healthy Mom” Isn’t Enough

A healthy baby and a physically safe delivery do not always mean a birth experience was emotionally easy to process. This article explores what happens when your mind keeps replaying your birth story, why difficult birth experiences can linger, and how to begin moving toward healing.

When Being a "Good Mom" Feels Like a Prison: The Hidden Face of Postpartum OCD

Many parents with postpartum OCD don’t realize they are struggling because their anxiety can look like what society praises: being careful, prepared, and endlessly protective. This article explores how postpartum OCD can hide behind the desire to be a “good mom,” why reassurance and safety behaviors keep anxiety going, and how ERP helps parents reconnect with the experience of motherhood they want.
